History of Kendo
FEES:  Membership dues are $90/quarter per person, and are payable to the NORTHWEST KENDO CLUB. We are a member of the AUSKF (All US Kendo Federation) and the PNKF (Pacific Northwest Kendo Federation). Membership also requires an annual payment of $70 ($40 for minors) to the All US Kendo Federation.
 
We have a "no-charge / open door" policy for all current Federation dojo members and visitors are welcome to watch our weekly practices. Please call ahead to confirm date and time.
 
Membership at NW Kendo allows members to practice at other affiliated kendo clubs throughout the Pacific Northwest and North America.
 
 
EQUIPMENT:  Beginners only need to come with comfortable workout clothing and their own practice weapon (shinai). Practice weapons ma be purchased from the club or directly from online retailers such as e-Bogu, e-Mudo,Miyako Kendogu, or Aioi.com.
 
Usually within 1-2 months of beginning kendo, practioners will wear the cotton jacket andhakama that comprise the official kendo outfit. After another 2-4 months, practioners will add protective gloves (kote) and abdominal protection (do and tare). Shortly therefter, they will add the head gear (men) and be ready for free-sparring and advanced training with their full complement of bogu.
